The Only Cleaning Supplies You Will Ever Need, According to a Type A Minimalist

If you’ve been around Leslie W. for any time at all, you probably know that I am quite the Type A personality, and that I also have OCD on top of it. Yes, I’m a perfectionist/OCD/Type A. It’s sometimes one of my greatest strengths, and sometimes one of my biggest weaknesses.

However, in the world of cleaning and organization, being a Type A with OCD is one of the best things ever. My house is always clean. Always. I seriously cannot help it but to keep it sparkling clean and organized at all times (it’s exhausting, to be honest).

I recently celebrated my 36th birthday and guess what the #1 thing on my wish list was? A new vacuum cleaner! I didn’t think my husband would actually buy the one I wanted, but he did! He bought me a Dyson V10 Absolute for my birthday and I have been in love with it since day 1. (I also purchased some e-cloths for my birthday, just as a special treat, and I will talk about those below, too.)

I will get into the Dyson in a bit, but hang tight because today, I am going to go over my most favorite minimalist cleaning supplies – the only cleaning supplies you will ever need. I think this will be refreshing for you in that, as a minimalist, I keep it pretty simple. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy! (Make sure you have a notepad handy so you can jot down these products I’m about to mention!)

Also, I made this handy Cleaning Supplies Checklist Printable for you if you are interested – it has every single cleaning supply listed in this blog post! Just go to my Free Resource Library to get yours now!

The Only Cleaning Supplies You Will Ever Need, According to a Type A Minimalist

1. Dyson V10 Absolute

Since I talked about the Dyson V10 Absolute already, I’ll just start with this one. I love it. Really, really, really love it. I did not know that a vacuum cleaner could bring one so much joy – but it absolutely does.

Here’s what I love about my Dyson V10 Absolute:

  • It’s lightweight & easy to maneuver in practically any space
  • It is the best at suctioning and never misses a single microscopic piece of dirt or debris
  • It is super easy to empty
  • It is super easy to detach certain parts and attach others
  • It it easy to store because of how slender it is
  • It is not very loud (super bonus for me because we have a sensitive dog at home)
  • It is CORDLESS which means it’s from the cleaning fairy herself (you HAVE to try a cordless vacuum, you will forever be convinced this is the only way to vacuum anything!)
  • There are so many attachments that you can use it to clean anything, anywhere
  • You can use it to vacuum tile and carpet, so it kind of eliminates the absolute necessity of having a broom

I just love it. There’s not much more to say. Get one today. You will be so glad you did. I will never go back to another style vacuum cleaner – EVER.

2. E-Cloths

Another birthday present – one I purchased for myself – were these e-cloths. I have had these on my buy list for years now, and just never did get around to purchasing them. I got several gift cards for my birthday and decided to finally make the plunge and try them out.

Let me tell you: I am so glad that I purchased them! I can tell these are going to be used constantly in our home. Constantly.

If you’re unfamiliar with e-cloths, they are eco-friendly, sustainable, microfiber cloths that remove over 99% of bacteria when using only water and the cloth itself. That’s it! You do not need a chemical when using e-cloths to clean. I repeat: no chemicals needed!

Here are some other things I love about e-cloths:

  • They actually work, and even better than any other cloth I’ve ever used
  • You only need water and the cloth, that’s it
  • They are super easy to wash and they hold up unlike other towels that slowly disintegrate on you
  • They are good for the environment
  • They are good for your wallet (they are only $24 and some change, and will last you years)

Try out the e-cloths today. You’ll be so glad you did! (I purchased the starter kit below, and am super happy with it – it has everything you need in just the 5 cloths that come with it).

3. Thieves Household Cleaner

I have talked about Thieves Household Cleaner in multiple blog posts (including my recent spring cleaning tips blog post).

We’ve been using this mixture for years now and it truly does clean anything – I mean anything (carpet, tough stains, grease, dust…you name it).

If you are new to the world of essential oils, you can sign up to be a member of Young Living by purchasing a Premium Starter Kit using this linkYou can see in the graphic below what all is included when you become a member. I will benefit from your sign up, so thank you in advance if you doFeel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about essential oils!

All you do is mix the amount of Thieves Household Cleaner with water (mixture amounts are on the THC bottle) and poor into a glass spray bottle (or into a bucket if you are using it to mop).

I always label my bottle “Multi-Surface Cleaner” but you can label yours whatever you would like.

You can use this mixture anywhere and everywhere in your house. Bonus: it smells amazing!

4. Lemon Oil

Lemon oil has long been one of my secret cleaning supplies (you may already know about it).

Lemon oil can clean nearly anything you can imagine. For instance, you know how if you purchase a frame at the store the price sticker is a pain to get off the glass? Well, not with lemon oil! It takes it off in a breeze. You know how set-in the dirt and gunk on your oven window is? Lemon oil will remove it.

Seriously, lemon oil is something you must keep in your cleaning caddy at all times. You can thank me later.

5. The Best Broom & Dustpan

Even though my Dyson V10 Absolute has the ability to clean tile floors, I still always feel better about them if I use an actual broom to sweep them from time to time.

About five years ago, when we first moved into this house, I was on the hunt for a really good broom – like the best of the best.

What I discovered, after hours of research (yes, that is how OCD I am!) was that the best broom needs to be paired with the best dustpan. So I found the best of each, and paired them together, and boom – it was like magic!

I’m telling you, this combination is perfect. This broom and dustpan set do not miss anything on tile (or similar-material) floors.

(FYI: Since the OXO Dustpan comes with a broom, I just use that broom in our garage.)

6. The Best Mop

I don’t do it as often as I should, but mopping is essential to cleaning your house.

And, you obviously need the best mop there is for this!

This was another thing that I spent hours upon hours researching when we first moved into this house. I wanted a mop that would actually clean really really well, and one that would last us a long time.

We tried out several other mops before settling on this one…and haven’t looked back since!

7. Magic Erasers

Even with the best vacuum, cloths, oils, cleaners, and broom/dustpans, there are still going to be times when you need something a little extra to clean.

For those times, I use the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. I have used the Target brand of these in the past and I have to say – they just don’t hold up quite as good as the Mr. Clean’s.

These are great for cleaning walls and items that just will not clean with other cleaners and materials.

They truly are magic.

8. Tub Cleaner & Wand

The only times we ever use a chemical to clean is when a pet has thrown up or used the bathroom on the carpet (and we use this when they have) or when we are cleaning the bathtubs. Really, there isn’t a need for chemicals outside of these two situations (in my opinion).

So, when we are cleaning the bathtub, we stick to the good ole Comet to do the job – and it always does!

I also use this wand to reach all over the bathtub, since it is an oddly-shaped area to clean.

With these two products, you really need nothing else to clean your bathtubs!

9. Pet Cleaning

We have one dog and one cat (used to be two cats) and from time to time, like all animals, they have accidents on the carpet (either using the bathroom or throwing up).

It doesn’t happen super often, but enough to where I have searched long and hard in the past for the absolute best cleaner for this – and thankfully found it!

We use this cleaner on the carpet and it seriously always does the trick (with very little effort).

Sometimes, if the mess happens to land on a different surface, such as our couches, we will use this spot cleaner and carpet shampooer.

I can’t say enough great things about this spot cleaner and carpet shampooer. If you have pets and/or children, this is a must-own. Hands down. Have to.

10. The Other Things

I asked my husband before finishing this list if there was anything I left off & he said “toilet cleaner & dish soap.” Ha.

So, along with the above 9 items, this toilet cleaner and dish soap are the only other things we use for cleaning our house. That’s it! (Well, I guess also this toilet brush, technically!)

Take Aways

Well friends, that is the all-inclusive list of literally the only cleaning products and supplies we have in our home. I am so glad to say that we only use two chemicals (the pet cleaner and comet)! I’m also glad to say that my all-purpose cleaner is 100% natural (the Thieves cleaner). These things make me happy.

Tell me, what are your favorite cleaning supplies? What can’t you live without? Have you tried the Dyson V10 or something similar? I’d love to know!

If the e-cloths are to be used with water only, what do you use with the Thieves cleaner? Rags? Paper towels? Thanks!

Great list! I hate cleaning, but I hate my husband’s multiple cleaning solutions even more. My job growing up was cleaning the bathroom (oldest child gets the gross job, I guess) and Comet always did the job. I don’t trust all the chemicals that Dave uses so I don’t even touch them.
