Unless you were born yesterday, you’ve probably heard all about how developing an email list is one of the most important things to do for your blogging business. But why? And how can an email list be used to make money blogging? Today I am going to answer these two questions for you.
This post may contain affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you choose to purchase through links I provide (at no extra cost to you).
Before I took the Blogging Blastoff 2.0 Course, I had no idea how important having an email list was. I honestly had not even heard of email lists at this point (this was very shortly after I launched my blog). But Pete & Heather made it very clear in their course that building an email list was key to being successful in today’s blogging business.
Today I am going to go over the 7 reasons why you need an email list to make money blogging. These reasons are ones that experts in the field agree with, and are reasons I have found to be 100% true in my own business as well.
Before we get started, if you are searching for a great email list provider, look no further than MailerLite. MailerLite is who I use to send my emails and I could not be happier with them. I love their diverse design options, the ease of building emails (whether series or single emails), and what I love most is their customer service – they are always available and always so helpful. They really are the best.
You can go here to try MailerLite. No questions asked. Don’t miss this limited time opportunity to grow your email list!
7 Reasons Why You Need an Email List to Make Money Blogging
1. Everyone Emails
This is so true. According to data from 2013, out of everything we do on our smartphones, 78% of this time is spent on email. This is huge! This means that social media, ads, blog posts, etc. should all be second only to your email list. Your email list is how you will reach your readers. Period.
2. Email is Personal
This is perhaps the most important reason why you need an email list to make money blogging. Connecting to your readers is the number one way (and the only way) you will ever be able to sell them something.
Think about it: every major company in the world attempts to connect with us in their advertising and marketing far before they ever sell us something. And it works.
You can connect with your readers through your email by sending them emails of encouragement during difficult times (such as the current COVID-19 pandemic). You can connect with your readers through your email by sharing with them simple tips that will solve problems within your niche. You can connect with them by sharing your ups and downs and how you are handling life as the role you know your readers have as well (mom, boss, dad, entrepreneur, etc.).
There are countless ways to connect with your readers through email, but just know that email is how you connect with them.
3. Email Drives Traffic
Want to know when my blog traffic is highest? It is highest on days that I send out emails to my readers and on days when I send my monthly newsletter. Plain and simple. Email drives traffic.
When readers receive an email, if you’re smart about it, you have included multiple links for them to go to – links on blog posts, freebies, courses, products, etc. And they do!
As long as you have consistently connected with your readers over time (see number 2), they will go to the places you direct them.
4. Sharing is More Likely with Emails
Again, as long as you have consistently connected with your readers, and are including the right types of information within your emails (again, see number 2), your readers will be sure to share the information within your email.
Have you ever received an email from a company with, perhaps, a major sale going on – and immediately thought of a friend who would also like to know about that sale? What do you do? You share it with them! Because you know the company and you like the company and you also know and like your friend, and you make the connection that you friend will also get to know and like the company.
Email lists for bloggers is no different. So make sure you sign up today to create your email list with MailerLite – your readers will be sharing in no time (which leads to more traffic and more sales).
5. Email is Highly Targeted
Once you start with MailerLite, you will see how targeted you can actually get with your email. You can target readers based on the links they click on within your blog, the pages they visit, their interests, and so much more.
Because email is so highly targeted (or at least, is it with the right email provider company), it will lead to more personal connections (see number 2-4) and therefore more traffic and sales.
6. Monetizing is Better through Email
Monetizing through email is one of the easiest ways to monetize your blog. Think about it: how many sales do you actually make from your blog alone? Well, depending on how long you have been blogging (and frankly, how good you are at it), you may make a lot through your blog alone.
But, for most people, money comes from outside your blog: affiliate marketing through email, ads through email, product sales through email, courses offered through email, etc. There is a lot of money to be made in your email lists. And monetizing through email is very simple to do. More to come on that in the future and in number 7, below. (But if you want the information now, check out the Blogging Blastoff 2.0 Course).
7. Multitude of Ways to Monetize through Email
There are so many ways to monetize through email. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Ads: include them in your email the same way you do your blog posts!
- Affiliate Marketing: same goes for this, market how you would on your blog – genuine product reviews & recommendations, etc.
- Product Sales: utilize email as the number one place to push your product sales – when you have a product to sell, always include it within every email you send. You can also ensure that your emails lead to products that you sell.
- Blog Posts: drive your email lists to your blog posts wherein you have more products to sell, more affiliate marketing, more courses to offer, etc.
Again, Pete & Heather go over a lot of other ways you can drive sales through your email list, so make sure to check out their Blogging Blastoff 2.0 Course.
If you took away anything from today’s post, hopefully you took away the fact that email lists are the number one way to make money blogging. I hope you also learned several ways that you can make money through your email lists.
Remember, check out MailerLite – they have the best email company ever. You will not be disappointed with them, I promise!
